Seen from the Canadian shore, this view looks across the Niagara River to the American side and the falls that lie on that bank. Wadsworth sketched it from nature in June 1806, and William R. Browne transferred the drawing to stone for printing by Pendleton, whose Wall Street address in New York places the print in 1832 or 1833. The gap of more than twenty-five years shows how long a single observed scene could stay in circulation, since Niagara was among the most drawn and printed sights in North America. Lithography was still a fairly new process in the United States at that time, which makes the stone-drawn image worth a close look.
