The falls seen here are the Horseshoe Falls, viewed from the Canadian side, looking down from the upper bank above the gorge. That vantage was a favorite one for nineteenth-century visitors, who came to see the cataract's full sweep and the spray rising from the base. The record gives no date, and the shelflist card names a Wentworth without further detail, so the maker and year remain uncertain. Views like this one were widely reproduced as prints and engravings, which helped turn Niagara into one of the most recognized natural landmarks in North America.
