Viewed from the Canadian shore at Table Rock, the American Falls sit at the edge of the frame, offering a different angle than the more familiar view of the Horseshoe Falls. Table Rock was a ledge of limestone that jutted over the gorge, and for much of the nineteenth century it drew sightseers who came to stand near the roaring water. The rock itself later collapsed in 1850, which changed how visitors approached the cataract. Images from this vantage point show how the crowds and the river's power shaped early tourism at Niagara.
