Steamer *Zillah* rides the open water of Yellowstone Lake, the largest high-elevation lake in North America, in this view taken around 1904. Steamboats like hers carried tourists across the lake when the park's roads were rough and travel was slow, linking hotels and camps on the shore. The Detroit Publishing Company, which issued many views of national parks and railroad destinations at the time, sold such scenes to visitors and armchair travelers who could not yet see the park for themselves. The caption card lists the subject as steamboats, coaches, and tourists, which places the boat within the early park tourism of that era.
