A park stage stands at the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, a hub on Yellowstone's northern side where visitors boarded coaches for tours of the surrounding terraces and geyser basins. The Detroit Publishing Company made the view around 1905, though that date comes from an old caption card and has not been verified. Before automobiles were admitted to the park in 1915, horse-drawn stages carried most tourists along its roads, so the scene records a way of travel that has largely disappeared.
