Castle Geyser, one of the best-known features of Yellowstone National Park, appears here as an illustration on page 52 of a 1997 publication, Wonderland '97. The geyser gets its name from the tall, weathered cone of siliceous sinter it has built up over thousands of years, which looks like a medieval fortress from a distance. Its eruptions, which typically reach well over 100 feet and occur roughly every ten to twelve hours, made it a favorite stop for early visitors. Seen on a page from a Yellowstone guide, the drawing reflects how the park's thermal features were presented to the public in the late twentieth century.
