Printed in Boston by L. Prang & Co. in 1885, this color lithograph commemorates the Battle of Chattanooga, fought in late November 1863, when Union forces broke the Confederate siege of the Tennessee city. Louis Prang's firm produced chromolithographs for a public that, more than two decades after the war, still wanted colorful pictures of its battles and commanders. The record also lists Union officers and the Gettysburg campaign among its subjects, a reminder that the Chattanooga victory came months after Gettysburg and helped open the route toward Atlanta.
