Shown here is a color chromolithograph of the fighting at Chattanooga, Tennessee, in November 1863, issued by the Boston firm L. Prang & Co. around 1880. It reproduces a painting by Thure de Thulstrup, a Swedish-born artist known for battle scenes, and the print was made to bring the war's major engagements to a public that wanted to see them. The battle, including the fighting on Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge, broke the Confederate siege of the city and helped raise Ulysses S. Grant's reputation, which led to his command of all Union armies in 1864.
