This view looks over the harbor at Marblehead, Massachusetts, a town on the North Shore that grew from a fishing settlement in the 1600s and later became known for its yachts and sailing. The glass negative was made for the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers traveled the country recording towns, rail lines and scenery for sale as prints and postcards. The date of about 1906 comes from the company's own 1906 catalog, which listed the image. The plate reached the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
