This color lithograph advertises the Première Exposition Internationale de Photographie, held in Paris in 1892, and the record credits its printing to Affiches-Camis. Like many Parisian posters of the period, it combines bold color and large lettering to catch the eye of passersby on the street. The 1890s were a boom time for commercial color lithography, and the medium was widely used to promote theaters, exhibitions and consumer goods. Photography was still gaining acceptance as an art form then, so an international show devoted to it drew attention in the city's press. The catalog record notes that some of its details come from older, unverified caption data, so the exhibition's exact organizers and venue are worth checking against other sources.
