The Schiller and Goethe Monument stands on the Theaterplatz in Weimar, where the two writers worked together in the town during the late 1790s and early 1800s. Ernst Rietschel's bronze pair, unveiled in 1857, shows the poets side by side on a tall pedestal, a tribute to the Weimar Classicism they helped shape. This photochrom print uses a color process that combined a photographic image with several lithographic stones, and it was issued by the Detroit Publishing Company, which distributed such views in America around 1900.
