The name on this glass negative, Ziang Sum Wan, is a title that has not been verified, so the courtroom itself is the clearest subject. The National Photo Company, which worked largely in Washington, D.C., around 1920, documented local news, and interior views of trials were rare then because courts generally barred cameras. The 8 by 6 inch plate shows streaks and blemishes from the decay of its original coating, a common condition for negatives of this age.
