The title on this negative is cut short, and the surviving word "Court" could refer to a courthouse, a tennis court, or a court of some other kind, so the record leaves the subject open. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio active in Washington, D.C., produced large numbers of views of American cities, buildings, and everyday scenes in the early twentieth century, and its glass negatives from roughly 1910 to 1926 document that period. The negative came to the Library of Congress as a 1947 gift from Herbert A. French. Viewers should expect streaks and blemishes, which come from the natural breakdown of the original emulsion coatings.
