Few spots in the Bernese Oberland combine a river confluence and a major peak as neatly as Zweilütschinen, where the Schwarze and Weisse Lütschine meet below the Jungfrau massif. The photochrom process used here, a color method that layered several lithographic stones over a photographic base, was developed in Zürich in the 1880s and produced the bright greens and blues that made Swiss views popular with travelers. Detroit Publishing Co., which sold these Swiss prints in the United States, listed this one in its 1905 catalog, though the photograph itself was likely made earlier, sometime in the 1890s.
