An art class at the Corcoran Art Gallery, the private museum that William Wilson Corcoran founded in Washington and opened in 1874, is the subject of this glass negative. The National Photo Company, a commercial firm that documented the capital and its institutions in the early twentieth century, made it, and the date of about 1920 is estimated from similar negatives in the same range. Worth noticing are the streaks and blemishes on the glass, which come from the natural deterioration of the original coatings rather than from the scene itself.
