Asking "Are you fond of horses?", this color lithograph by Horst Schreck speaks to a different kind of recruit than most World War I posters, which mostly appealed to men willing to fight. Issued in 1919, after the armistice but while the Army still depended heavily on horses and mules, it promotes the Veterinary Corps, whose work included caring for and treating animals and inspecting meat and dairy products. The poster directs readers to an Army recruiting officer, a reminder that enlistment continued well after the fighting ended.
