The poster invokes two Polish heroes of the eighteenth century, Tadeusz Kościuszko and Kazimierz Pulaski, to urge men to enlist in the Polish Army. Kościuszko led the 1794 uprising against Russia and Prussia, and Pulaski died in 1779 fighting for the American colonies at Savannah. Printed in 1917 with the text repeated in Polish, this lithograph by W. T. Benda speaks to Polish Americans by linking their ancestors' fight for liberty to wartime service, reflecting the effort to raise a Polish force in France during the First World War.
