Queenstown, the harbor town on Ireland's south coast now called Cobh, was one of the last Irish ports many emigrants saw before crossing the Atlantic. This wood engraving, published in *Harper's Weekly* on September 26, 1874, takes departure from that harbor as its subject, with passengers bound for New York. The route carried large numbers of Irish people in the decades after the Great Famine, and the 1870s were a steady stretch of that movement. The print is worth a close look as a record of how an American illustrated weekly chose to show emigration.
