Queenstown, the harbor town on the south coast of Ireland now called Cobh, was a regular stop for transatlantic steamers, so a New York yacht anchored off it in July 1869 would have been a notable sight. This print shows the schooner *Dauntless* under sail at that spot, a distinctive view because most Currier & Ives ship prints of the period show vessels in New York Harbor or on the open Atlantic. The lithograph was published by Currier & Ives in New York around 1869 and drawn by Charles R. Parsons and Lyman W. Atwater, then hand-colored, a finishing step that gave these inexpensive prints their bright sails and flags. Such pictures helped American readers follow the yachting and ocean crossings that were then drawing public attention.
