A dagger motif sets this poster apart from other health notices of its time, and it reinforces the blunt message that "delay is dangerous" in fighting cancer. It urges viewers to consult a doctor or the local health bureau. The Federal theater Project, one of the arts programs of the Works Progress Administration, produced it. That program employed theater artists and workers during the Depression and put their skills to public information work. Silkscreen printing, used here in color, let federal poster units make inexpensive runs for wide public display. A November 1938 date stamp on the back shows the poster stayed in circulation after its 1936 design.
