This silkscreen poster carries the blunt slogan "Don't fear cancer, fight it!" and a signature from the artist identified only as "JR." It was produced in 1936 under the Work Projects Administration's poster program, with the Federal theater Project listed as sponsor, and it directs viewers to the United States Public Health Service and the American Society for the Control of Cancer, the forerunner of the American Cancer Society. Posters like this were part of a broader 1930s effort to replace fear and secrecy around cancer with early detection and medical advice. The verso's September 1938 date stamp shows it was still circulating in archives and distribution two years later.
