Few posters from the Work Projects Administration spoke as plainly about cancer as this one, which urges the public not to "fight cancer alone" and instead to seek guidance from a short list of named agencies. The caption directs readers to their state or local medical society, their health department, a cancer committee, or the Women's Field Army of the American Society for the Control of Cancer. The poster was produced in 1936 as a silkscreen print, and the Federal theater Project is credited as its sponsor. It was part of a broader federal effort in the 1930s to promote public health through art, when cancer was widely feared and little understood by ordinary Americans.
