Its title pins the scene to a single day, April 25, 1865, when Abraham Lincoln's funeral procession moved through Manhattan after his body had lain in state at City Hall. The sheet was issued by Charles Magnus, a New York lithographic publisher whose Frankfort Street shop produced many pictorial sheets for the local market. The color was added by hand to each impression, so copies differ slightly in tone. Lincoln's body was carried by train toward Illinois after the New York observances, and printed views like this one let people who could not attend keep a record of the city's mourning.
