Warrenton Junction, a rail stop in Fauquier County, Virginia, lay on the Orange and Alexandria Railroad, and in mid-June 1863 it sat along the route the Army of the Potomac took north as Lee's army moved toward Pennsylvania. Alfred R. Waud, a staff artist for *Harper's Weekly*, sketched the scene in pencil. Its subject headings point to the railroad and the carts and wagons that crowded the roads, a reminder of how much supply work kept an army that size moving. Sketches like this were rushed to engravers and printed for readers who could not see the campaign for themselves.
