Skeletons take center stage on this poster, which advertised the Federal theater Project's production of Christopher Marlowe's *Doctor Faustus* in New York. Launched in 1935 under the Works Progress Administration, the Federal theater Project employed out-of-work actors, designers and stagehands and staged plays for audiences across the country during the Depression. Designed by Theodore Ward, this silkscreen is a later reissue, dated 1990 in the library's record, that echoes the bold graphic style of the original WPA posters. Its macabre imagery suits Marlowe's story of a scholar who trades his soul for knowledge and power.
