This silkscreen poster advertises *On the Rocks*, a 1933 comedy by George Bernard Shaw, staged in New York by the Federal theater Project in 1936. The Project was a branch of the Works Progress Administration, which put unemployed theater workers back on stage during the Depression and kept its productions accessible at low prices. Its posters were made by artists working through the WPA, and this one is distinctive for its bold flat color and lettering, typical of the screen-printing method used across the program. The later date stamped on the back shows the sheet was still being handled and filed years after it was first printed.
