The Piegan, a Blackfeet-speaking people of northern Montana and southern Alberta, lived in tipis that could be packed and moved with the bison herds, and this Edward S. Curtis photograph shows such a camp around 1900. Curtis made his *North American Indian* project to record Native life before he believed traditional ways would vanish, and this image appeared as plate 207 in volume 6 of that work. Curtis often arranged people and props for his camera, so the scene reflects his vision as much as everyday routine.
