The white border that gives this card its name sets it apart from the many other baseball cards in the set. Library staff devised the title "White Borders" for the record, and the American Tobacco Company issued the card between 1909 and 1911. Tobacco firms tucked cards like this into cigarette packs to encourage sales, and the T206 series, one of the largest sets of its era, is now among the most closely studied by collectors. The card comes from the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection, which preserves these cards as a record of the game and of how it was marketed.
