What sets this card apart is its plain white border, the feature that gives the T206 series its nickname, "White Borders." The American Tobacco Company issued the cards in cigarette packs between 1909 and 1911, and the set grew to more than 500 different players, making it one of the largest baseball card issues of its era. Printed in color using a halftone process, the cards were meant to be collected, and today they offer historians a detailed view of early twentieth-century ballplayers and the tobacco marketing that helped popularize the sport. This example comes from the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection.
