Part of the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection, this card belongs to the T206 series, widely known as the White Borders set, which the American Tobacco Company issued in cigarette packages between 1909 and 1911. Its color relief printing, combined with halftone reproduction, gave the small player portraits a crisp, colorful look for the period. The cards were packed with cigarettes to encourage repeat purchases and collecting, and the set later became one of the most studied in the hobby, including the famous Honus Wagner card. The title on the Library's record was devised by staff, a reminder that many early cards were catalogued without original names.
