A 1919 color lithograph poster, it was issued for the YWCA's division for foreign-born women, an effort aimed at immigrant women in the United States just after the First World War. The YWCA ran programs in those years that offered language instruction, citizenship preparation, and social support, and its wartime and postwar campaigns often tied those services to ideas of national unity. The poster's design and title speak to that moment, when organizations were trying to draw newcomers into American civic life. The record credits C. Howard Walker as the artist and Carey Print Lith. of New York as the printer, and notes that the poster once belonged to a German collection of historical materials.
