A sixteen-year-old named Marthe Picard signed this 1918 color lithograph, which urges French households to "eat less meat and save our livestock." Its subject headings point to fishing, and the message fits France's wartime food strain, when herds had been depleted and meat was scarce, so fish was promoted as a substitute. Posters like this one carried home-front appeals asking civilians to change their own tables for the war effort. The young artist's signature is what sets this sheet apart from the other posters on the board.
