Moored in Marblehead Harbor, north of Boston, this view shows a fleet of sailing yachts belonging to the New York Yacht Club, which spent its summers cruising and racing off the New England coast. Marblehead was among the country's leading yachting harbors in the early 1900s, and the club's presence there drew wealthy owners and crews each season. The image is a large 8 by 10 inch glass negative made by the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm known for its topographic views of American towns, harbors and landmarks. Its date is uncertain, so the record gives it as about 1906.
