Part of a numbered series of 25 views, this glass negative shows a locomotive the title bills as the largest electric engine in the world. The National Photo Company made it around 1924, a period when railroads were turning to electric power, mainly to clear smoke from long tunnels and crowded terminal approaches. Builders were competing to show off heavier and more powerful machines, and photographs like this helped publicize that work. The negative has streaks and other blemishes from deterioration in its original coating, so some fine detail may be obscured.
