Roberts recorded the summit of Mount Sinai on February 20, 1839, during his travels through Egypt and the Levant, and this lithograph shows a Christian chapel and a Muslim place of worship standing side by side on the rocky peak. Roberts made his sketches on the spot, and Louis Haghe turned them into color lithographs for *The Holy Land*, published in London by F. G. Moon between 1842 and 1845. Pilgrims of several faiths have long climbed Sinai, so the two small buildings on the summit offer a useful glimpse of how the mountain was shared and visited in the 1830s.
