An air show at Bolling Field in Washington, D.C., held for a club of soldiers, sailors and marines, is the subject of this August 1925 glass negative. The National Photo Company, a Washington commercial studio that documented the city's public events in the early twentieth century, made many pictures like it for newspapers and clients. Flying exhibitions drew large crowds in the 1920s, when aviation was still new to most people and military airfields were building a public profile. The surface shows streaks and blemishes from deterioration in the original coating.
