Calvin Coolidge and a companion identified as "Mrs. C." appear at a circus on May 13, 1924, a date recorded on the glass negative. The names come from a title the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, and the record notes that the title has not been verified. Coolidge had taken office in 1923 after Warren G. Harding's death, and the Washington-based National Photo Company recorded many public appearances by officials and their families during those years. Viewers should note the streaks and blemishes on the glass, which the collection attributes to deterioration of the original coatings.
