David's procession bringing the Ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem is the subject of this color halftone, a reproduction of a painting by the Scottish artist William Hole, who was a Royal Scottish Academy member and an etcher. The scene follows the account in 2 Samuel 6 and 1 Chronicles 15 and 16, in which David led music and dancing as the sacred chest was carried into the city. The print was issued around 1925 by Eyre & Spottiswoode of London as part of a series of Bible illustrations, which made Hole's religious subjects widely available to households and Sunday schools.
