Oyster Bay, on Long Island's north shore, was home to Theodore Roosevelt's Sagamore Hill estate, and he spent much of his time there between Washington and his travels. In 1912 he was campaigning for the presidency as the Progressive Party candidate, so a visit home that year offered only a brief pause from the trail. The glass negative comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, whose news service supplied the title, though that caption information has not been fully verified.
