This glass negative shows Theodore Roosevelt at Oyster Bay, the Long Island harbor town where he kept his family home at Sagamore Hill. The record dates it to 1912, a year when Roosevelt sought the Republican presidential nomination again, and when his challenge split the party and led him to run on the Progressive ticket that fall. The picture comes from the Bain News Service, a news photo agency whose negatives document much of daily life in Washington and New York. The title was supplied by the agency on its caption cards and has not been independently verified, so the exact occasion is worth checking.
