The House wing of the United States Capitol is the building's south-side section, home to the House of Representatives chamber, and this glass negative records it in the years just after 1900. The image comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that sent photographers across the country and sold views as postcards and prints, so the picture reflects the commercial appetite for tourist images of national landmarks. Its catalog number and the "G 1705" marking on the glass help place it within that large body of work. The Capitol's dome and white marble facade made it a favorite subject of the period.
