Titled for the Concord stage, this color halftone reproduces a painting by E. Percy Moran, an American artist known for scenes of colonial and early national life. It shows a stagecoach and its surroundings at a New England tavern, a place that served as a gathering point for travelers, mail, and local news. Brown & Bigelow of St. Paul issued the print around 1911, when many Americans were drawn to romantic images of the colonial past. Inns and stagecoaches were central to travel between towns in the decades before and after the Revolution, which makes the scene a useful window onto that period.
