Seen from a high vantage point, this color lithograph lays out the Centennial Buildings across Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, the grounds prepared for the 1876 Centennial Exhibition. H.J. Toudy & Co. published the view around 1875, in the years before the fair opened, to give the public a sense of the site's scale. The exhibition marked the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and drew millions of visitors to the park along the Schuylkill River. Bird's-eye views like this one were a popular way to show such large sites at a glance.
