Few views of the 1876 Centennial Exhibition look down on its grounds from so high above, and this color lithograph lays out the fairgrounds in Fairmount Park as a single panorama. A.L. Weise printed it in Philadelphia, and it was copyrighted in 1876 by Lineaweaver & Wallace. Bird's-eye pictures like this were popular because they let people who had not made the trip grasp the scale of the enterprise, which marked the hundredth anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and drew millions of visitors to its halls and pavilions along the Schuylkill River. Study the layout closely to see how the separate buildings were arranged across the park.
