The name Aniwegi Boudinot sets this glass negative apart, though the National Photo Company's title is unverified and should be read as a lead rather than settled fact. The Boudinot surname is closely tied to Cherokee history, most famously through Elias Boudinot, the early nineteenth-century editor of the *Cherokee Phoenix*. The National Photo Company worked in Washington, D.C., from the early 1900s into the 1920s, producing large numbers of portrait and view negatives, and this plate shows streaks and blemishes from natural deterioration of its original coating.
