A private residence belonging to Hervie Wetzel in Detroit is preserved here on an 8 by 10 inch glass negative, one of the many house views the Detroit Publishing Company made between about 1905 and 1915. The company produced thousands of plates documenting streets, buildings and landscapes, which it sold as souvenirs and reference views. The period was one of rapid growth in Detroit, when the automobile industry was expanding the city and its wealthier families were building larger homes. The record notes that the negative was given to the State Historical Society of Colorado in 1949.
