Few details of the stage career behind this poster survive, but its format tells much of the story. At 108 by 36 centimeters, it is a tall, narrow sheet, the kind of color lithograph that traveling theatrical companies pasted on storefronts, fences, and billboards to draw audiences into a town. The imprint credits St. Paul, Minnesota, where the printer Standard produced such posters in the 1920s. Before film and radio dominated popular entertainment, touring magicians like Newmann relied on bold, eye-catching posters like this one to advertise their shows.
