The record names this view of St. David but offers few other details, so it is best understood through its source. The two near-identical 11 x 14 inch glass negatives were listed in the Detroit Publishing Company's catalog supplement, issued between 1901 and 1906, when the firm sold travel views of towns and scenery across the country. One is marked as a duplicate, which suggests the company kept more than one copy of a popular composition. The plates came to the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
