This silkscreen poster announces a New York exhibition of recent etchings, lithographs and wood engravings by contemporary artists, and it shows how the Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project used public events to promote printmaking. Silkscreen, a process the WPA's New York workshops used for inexpensive, colorful posters, gives it a bold, flat look typical of the program's graphic work. The poster dates to 1936, and a stamp on the back records a later handling date of January 5, 1939. The record also links the piece to sculptor Maurice Glickman, a reminder that the project employed artists across many media.
