This 1936 silkscreen poster announces an exhibition of oil paintings by artists working in the easel division of the Federal Art Project, one of the Works Progress Administration's arts programs. The easel division employed painters to produce studio works, many of which went to public buildings, schools, and community spaces, and the poster advertises the show in the bold flat color that the WPA's poster workshops used to reach passersby cheaply. The Federal Art Project gave thousands of unemployed artists paid work during the Depression, and posters like this one show how the agency publicized its own output.
